10:59 am - autumn is here

just like every morning, i walked out of my apartment building to head to work.  but today, something was different.  you could just tell that it is autumn now.  there's a certain crispness about the air today and  it's a little sad.

i absolutely love living in san francisco.  the city has treated me really well during the last two years and four months, but the lack of summer kills.  there are very few days that go by where i don't think about how unfortunate the weather is in these parts.  for god's sake, i live in california.  i must live on the only seven mile by seven mile piece of land in this state that does not have real summer weather.  then again, you have la where it's summer non-stop.  nor cal should petition to steal some summer weather from so cal.  :)

09:24 pm - rabbit's foot kind of luck.

it's official.  i've decided i'm the official good luck charm for the rockies.  i've gone to four rockies games here in sf and they've won them all.  during this last series against the giants, the rockies were down two games.  i had my doubts at first, but they must have known i was going to the game today because they really pumped it up.  they cranked out two home runs even before i got there!  they won today 8-0. :)

09:46 pm - an accident.
if someone were to tell you that they accidentally ran twelve miles what would you do?  i would assume the normal reaction would be to laugh and say something like, "what the hell are you talking about?"  another choice reaction would be to take a second to process things, shake your head in confusion and ask the speaker to repeat what they'd just said because, surely, they didn't say twelve miles.

haha.  well, on saturday i accidentally ran twelve miles.  i'm still baffled as to how this happened, but it did.  i can't remember if i mentioned it in a previous post, but i'm training for another half marathon (my third!).  training hasn't been going so well the last three to four weeks because of my travel schedule (spent 10 days with the boy driving across the most of the boring parts of the country to help him relocate to his new home) and ridiculous work schedule.  i'd say that in the last 4 weeks i've ran a total of 8 miles with 3 miles being my upper limit.  not good.  last wednesday i decided it was time to dive back into the training schedule.  stat.  so, i mustered up the energy to go for a 5.5 mile run.  not bad.  pretty good start, right?  per the training schedule i was supposed to run 10 miles on saturday, but i figured i'd do 8 because i was getting back into the trainig.  saturday morning i got up all jazzed to go on my run (yes.  not normal).  i got to the training.  rushed into everything b/c i got there late and most of the pace groups had already left.  so i jumped into what i believe to be the 11:30 pace group.  too slow.  so i cranked up the speed and made my way passed a few "packs" of people and caught up to the 10 minute mile group.  i felt pretty stoked to have caught up to them, so then i decided i'd do 10 miles... i mean, i was feeling really great.  why not?

i'm running and running, and eventually one of the pace leaders announces that we're at 7 miles and asks how we're feeling.  i'm thinking, "cool.  just a few more miles."  more running.  i hear we've hit the 9 mile mark.  i breathe a sigh of relief - almost done!  but then it hits me.  our end point is still pretty far, there's no way it's only a mile away.  so, we keep going and going.  eventually, my body gives me a big "eff you" and pretty much doesn't want to go any further.  i then proceeded to take the shortest way i could think of to get back to my car.  when i got home i looked at the running course.  yep, sure enough.  i'd ran 12 miles.  in fact, i was doing the 14 mile loop.  i'd missed the 10 mile turn-off at some point.

the moral of the story?  in the future pay more attention to the running courses they post.  hey, maybe i'll even start printing out the maps and bring them with me to the trainings.  good idea huh?  oh, yeah, on sunday, my legs hurt so much.

09:38 pm - forgettable
you have unforgettable moments.  and you also have forgettable moments.  apparently high school was one of the forgettable moments of my life.  tonight someone had posted this thing about memories they had from high school.  basically, it was a long list of survey questions like, "what was your favorite memory?", "what did you do on senior ditch day?", "who was your best friend?", etc.  as i read through this person's responses, i started to go through and answer the questions for myself.  damn, i don't remember a whole lot... and, no, it was not an alcohol-induced memory lapse.  :)

it's just funny what people remember.  i feel like the people who remember high school enjoyed it for the most part.  and then there are those who couldn't wait to get out, and have chosen to not remember it.  but, i can't say i couldn't wait to get out.  i mean, i had fun from what i remember... it's just that once i got to college i realized high school really wasn't anything that great.  haha.  i have a pretty good memory, so it scares me a little that i don't remember a lot from high school.  ah, well.  i don't think i'll be losing sleep over it any time soon.

09:16 pm - love.

i spent the other weekend up in tahoe for a good friend's wedding.  this was my first wedding of a non-family memeber, and the groom happened to be one of the first friends i'd made in college.  i guess things have weird ways of coming full circle, eh?  the entire thing was beautiful - as all weddings are.  everything about it represented the couple really well.  they had it up on top of a mountain overlooking the lake.  the view was gorgeous and the weather couldn't have been more prefect.  seriously, the wind literally stopped when the ceremony started... and picked right back up after it finished.  we all had to take the ski lift up in order to get to the ceremony site.  definitely the first time i'd taken a ski lift when there wasn't any snow on the ground.  the lift was perfectly fit for the event because they'd met in a ski lift line at breckenridge back in college.  as it turns out, the maid of honor introduced the couple to each other.  at the reception, each table was marked with the name of a specific place.  boulder, colorado.  breckenridge, colorado.  jackson hole, wyoming.  whilster, bc.  airlie beach, australia.  incline village, nevada.  london, england.  cusco, peru. etc.  each location having a special memory associated with it, and at each table there was a short write-up explaining the significance of the location.  definitely cute because it gave the wedding attendants a chance to learn more about their history and how they ended up becoming who they are now.

it was so amazing to see the two of them together on their big day.  the entire time i've known them, they've been the perfect couple.  their interests, values, and life goals are so aligned with each other.  i think the most amazing thing about their wedding was seeing how happy and in love they were with each other.  yeah, it's such a cheesy thing to say.  but, seriously, i couldn't help but be happy for them.

12:56 pm - ?!
never in a million years would i have thought this would happen.

as i sat down to my lunch this afternoon, i found myself distracted by a noise.  at first i couldn't tell where the noise was coming from.  all i could hear was this strange "ticking" sound.  initially, i thought it was coming from the tv.  upon lowering the tv sound, i realized it was not coming from the tv.  so, i sat there for a few minutes trying to identify the noise.  i soon realized it was coming from outside (window was open).  so then i thought, "what could make this noise and why the heck can't i figure it out?"  then i realized what it was.

it was the sound of a sprinkler.

it's so rare to hear that sound in these parts!!  but still... really?  has it been that long that i've forgotten?
